Its really been a while, since I really sat in front of the laptop (my bro's laptop anyway cuz mine is under repairs) to blog. Perhaps is the things that happen during the holidays that had me preoccupied. Problems? Maybe I won't blog some of them if i choose to forget them.
FYP...With the passing of 3 weeks of holidays, I was having some apprehension. I believe I am a motivator, but not one that oftenly uses force, unless under dire circumstances. I also feel that its not in my blood to openly criticize my others when I feel something is not right. This time I really feel something isn't right. I know its raw and crude, but I really doubt Earns or Andrew would initiate a meeting for FYP soon, much less come up with the idea of getting hardware components. I guess I'll have to do most of the things on my own initiative or accord. At times I would just be bitter and curse myself for some inexplainable reason, I really don't know how to cure this worry....
There were times I really want to slam the management for only accepting diploma plus students, dean's list students or GPA3.8++ students for the so-called "prepared" FYP. Although I've heard from friends that these FYPs are tough and very time-consuming, I really don't mind as the "road" seems laid in front of you. Just follow instructions blindly, and "viola!" done! Furthermore, there were supervisors that would be there to guide (and occasionally berate) the students, enabling them to realize their mistakes and get on track. Well, guess my Supervisor got her hands full with her work and she couldn't really be bothered...
Don't say that I am negative, but I have already resigned to fate and I feel that our project will never make it to next years Spinnovex. I still remember the first few days when we commenced on the FYP (somewhere in May), I was very positive (Like what earns say, "DASE leh!!"), I was like ("Spinnovex is ours!")... haiz.... time to wonder again...
What a fuckin' wasteful 6 weeks of holiday this is going to be...

Yesterday morning while I was still asleep, my mom used the keys to open my door and slipped $18 into my wallet. And when I questioned her, she said she knew that I did not have anymore money. I objected, telling her that I still have and that she should keep the money for her use. Last Monday, she had already passed me $12, now... another $18 and that already totalled to $70 this week. I really feel bad that she had to give me extra money. 70 Bucks is like almost 1/5 of her monthly pay.
I was a bit sad that I couldn't work at FCUK as there were no more vacencies available. I've just asked Tuna about for slot at Dusty. Hopefully I would get a favourable reply soon.
If I ever land that job, I guess I won't be needing to have pocket money from my mom anymore. Come to think of it, Mom will save $160 for pocket money, $52 for bus concession, and perhaps $20 for MRT fare. Personal costs would be monthly telephone bill. Great... I guess there should be some balance money to get into my savings account.
Times are hard, so much so that my dad got so obsessed with saving on the electricity bill. But ironically, it is he who spends the most money, gambling loads of it on his damned soccer matches. Years ago, he complained that there ain't enough money in the house. Now, my brothers are working, and they contribute monthly upkeep to the family expenses. But still, my eccentric father is constantly yacking about money, money and money. Its not as if I am such an ass-hole who sticks out my hand for money. In fact, its a violation of my principles to "beg" for money. If possible, I don't want to depend on anyone anymore.
Think...A 24 year old guy asking parents for money... hah... please... Many kids now-a-days having the comfort of their homes, would whine for money. Let me remove the details to spare (some readers of this entry) the blushes. I reiterate, I am not this sort of person, and I despise people of those sort.
After much thought, I've planned to work long term. Whatever the consequences, I don't care. Whoever objects, that's their problem, those type of people can always get far far away from me and I don't give a shit about what they think. I've already made my choice to work and study for my last semester in Poly. I know it's a risk, but it is something challenging that I am willing to undertake.
And to that person who said "... you still student studying, WHAT THE HELL ask you go work? ... blah blah blah~ blah blah blah~" I'd say, Grats you for having your own private house, and 4 cars... unlike me living in HDB apartment. Wait till your family is struggling to make end's meet, then you'll know what it's like. Or perhaps when you are my age and still studying, lets see you take those loads of money from your old parents hands, let's see if you think of your parents or not, let's see if wether your conscience has gone...

FYP: Deciding in the Design
Last thursday (2nd Sept 2008), Andrew and I were in school to decide on the type of eSave Lamp we wanted to design. Several months ago we had already came up with several possibilies for the lamp.
1: Infra Red Detection Type
-----------------------------
-Automatic
-Light wont't off unless object is removed
-Detection Problem
2: Wireless Cushion
-----------------------------
-Automatic
-No problems as of No. 1
-Battery operated
-Wear and tear
-Misplacement of cushion
-Maintainence problem
-Least bulky
3: Voice/Sound Recognition
-----------------------------
-Convenient
-Complex
-Not fool-proof
4:Weight
-----------------------------
-Certain amount of force required to activate
-Sensitivity problems
5: Temperature
------------------------------
-Auto-detection is slow
-Not constant temperature
6: Remote control
------------------------------
-Not unique
-Probability of misplacement
7: Wind Detection
------------------------------
-Subject to environmental fluctuations
Initially we had decided to proceed with the wireless cushion. But there were many complex problems to consider, primarily is the durability of the cushion as it is often subject to human usage. Finally we settled for the Infra Red detection version as we feel that it there is a better possibility for this version. Also, it is not cumbersome as it is only a 1 piece equipment, unlike the 2 piece Wireless cushion.
With that in mind, we started doing a very rough sketch of the exterior of the product. Possible placements for the lights, the infra-red emitters and detectors were considered. We also came out with it's rough size, which is about the size of a slightly larger A3 Paper.

Getting my Hair Done...
Yesterday after Ah Ma's birthday celebration at Zhou's Kitchen (Zhaw's Kitchen by Auntie Ean XD), I went over to Mark's (The freelance hairdresser) house to have my hair done. Since I foresaw myself working in FCUK (high probability), I think its better I get my messy hair done so I can blend in with the people there. Also as what Earns told me before, I'd need to get plain white or black Tee / Collared Tee for the attire.

The differences between these 2 codes are rather big. Each codes are encased in <> .
Code 1: ?xml:stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="product.xsl"?
Code 2: xsl:stylesheet xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0"

Nono, these are not codes to beautify your blogs. These are codes that I have to memorise for the CSS exam. So many times, I unknowingly mix-and-match the parts together and at times I came up with my own syntax lol! Of all things, I hate to memorise coding format... I'm gonna settle my arse down and get this problem straightened out.
The 1st paper is this friday, the 22nd of August. After that, I've got about 5 days to revise my DSP and after the DSP exam, that will be another 2 days to revise SOCOM. Luckily I did most of the SOCOM revision before starting to revise for CSS.
